Prisoner 88

Prisoner 88 by Lead Pileggi

Jake Evans is the youngest prisoner ever to be sent to the Idaho Territorial Penitentiary. At 10 years old, Jake has been sentenced to five years for manslaughter, even though he's not even sure what happened the day he pulled the trigger. Inside the prison, Jake fares better than he has in the real world...he's fed every day, given a job working outside with hogs, and he's learning to read (or being forced to). But he is still Prisoner 88, and Jake learns some hard lessons during his time in prison. Told through Jake's eyes and based on a true story, Prisoner 88 is a short but interesting view of what life in prison in 1855 would have been like for a boy of 10.

Second Impact

Second Impact by David Klass

What if the making the right choice seems like the wrong one to everyone else? When star quarterback Jerry Downing drives drunk and injures a girl, he's not sure he can win redemption. The only way he knows is to take the team to the championship game, so that is what he sets as his goal. He doesn't count on getting asked by Carla Jenson, a reporter for the school newspaper, to participate in a blog with her and sharing his perspectives on the season. Jerry finds he likes writing more than he thought he would, and he and Carla make a great team. But when Carla begins writing stories about sports injuries after suffering one her self, the direction the blog takes causes a huge problem for the football team. Told in the alternating voices of Carla and Jerry, Second Impact takes a hard look at the price of winning in a small town.
