Doll Bones by Holly Black
Zach and his friends, Poppy and Alice, have always loved playing together with action figures. But when his father throws his figures away, Zach can't play anymore. Rather than tell his friends what happened to his characters, Zach decides to just stop being friends with Poppy and Alice. But when Poppy comes to Zach and claims she is being haunted by a doll made from the ground up bones of a murdered girl, Zach knows he has to help Poppy find the doll's final resting place before something bad happens to his friend. The quest takes them far from home and into danger that they could not forsee in this creep read.
