The Compound by S.A. Bodeen
Eli has lived underground in the Compound since the day the world exploded. His father has made sure their family is well-provided for until the world becomes inhabitable again, but Eli can't help but think about his brother and grandmother who were left behind. Inside the Compound, the dull routine begins to erode his sanity, and he begins to wonder if they are still safe far beneath the ruined Earth. But when Eli decides to take his chances outside the Compound, he is not at all prepared for what he faces.
