Bystander by James Preller
Like all students new to a
school, Eric is hoping to make some friends. When Griffin singles Eric out to
be part of his group, Eric feels like his new school might be okay after all.
But as Eric gets to know Griffin, more and more things he says and does begin
to make Eric uncomfortable. Eventually Eric is forced to confront the question
of whether being a bystander to bullying makes you just as guilty as the bully.
When Eric's role changes from bystander to target, he must figure out a way to
survive middle school. This is an excellent story with several unexpected plot
twists and characters every student reader can relate to.
