Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos
Jack is looking forward
to a great summer vacation in the , only to have his plans turned into a dead
end when he is "grounded for life" for two unfortunate events.
Instead of being able to enjoy summer, Jack is stuck doing chores for his
mother and helping his elderly neighbor write obituaries as the town of
Norvelt's last original citizens die off one by one. But the old ladies of
Norvelt are dying off very quickly, and when Jack's neighbor is accused of
murder, "dead end" takes on a whole new meaning. Jack's
laugh-out-loud adventures in a town not far from ours with a zany cast of
characters and just a touch of mystery makes for a great read.
