Faith, Hope and Ivy June by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
Ivy
June and Catherine are chosen to represent their schools in the seventh-grade
exchange program. Ivy June goes first, travelling to Lexington to spend two
weeks with Catherine attending her private school. Once she returns to Thunder
Creek, though, things don't look the same. She begins to worry about what
Catherine, with her school uniforms, matching curtains and comforter, and four
bathrooms, is going to think of their tiny house on the mountain with no indoor
plumbing. But once Catherine is on the mountain and tragedy strikes the
families of both girls, it doesn't take them long to decide that sadness feels
the same no matter where you are. Told in alternating journal entries with the
story sandwiched in between, this story tells about how it's not the
differences that matter, but the things that you share.
